After putting up with impolite customers and lowball offers in '09,
landlords are getting a little taste of revenge this year. “It’s
100 percent better than last year,” says Corcoran's Susan
Breitenbach. Although rental prices have been slightly chopped, owners
are feeling more confident and sticking to their guns this season with
the attitude of “If I don’t rent it, I’ll enjoy it." Meanwhile, renters
are coming to grips with the fact that the days of getting a sweet deal
have vanished, whether they like it or not. Besides, as one broker
puts it, “What are they going to do, go to the Jersey Shore?"
